The 7 Best Pickleball Bags, According to Some Very Opinionated Picklers
Ditch your all-purpose gym bag for an upgraded pickle-tote.
Pickleball has become one of the fastest-growing sports because it's a great workout, easy to learn and has a culture that encourages good times and sociability. It’s like the best aspects of spin class, bingo night, and cocktail hour—without the hangover.
The equipment you need is minimal: a racket, a ball, and a court to play on. But extra gear (such as a pickleball picker-up, a pickleball visor, and pickleball shoes) definitely helps, and a pickleball bag is close to essential.
Not only do bags specifically designed with pickleball players in mind bring style and whimsy to your game, they allow you to store your pickle-specific gear conveniently, and haul it to and from the court. Regular gym bags, tennis bags, and all-purpose totes are great—but they don’t cut it for pickleball’s specific needs and gear.
What to Consider
Picking the perfect pickleball bag will depend on your individual requirements and preferences. Speak to five different players (I did), and you’ll get five different answers. For some, they’ll prioritize compartments, while others will focus on safety issues, how much they cram in there, how it should be best carried. Many just care about what it looks like.
For Casey Jones, founder and head of marketing and finance at CJ&CO, a global digital marketing fan, he wants it all.
“As a pickleball enthusiast, I can say that a bag with multiple compartments with a fabric that is sturdy and lightweight works best,” Jones says. “Ideally, you should look for a bag that can hold multiple pickleball paddles, your pickleball shoes, some balls, your keys, and perhaps some snacks and a beverage. Also, see if the straps have cushioning and they sit nicely on your shoulders.”
Make sure you consider these top items to consider before clicking “buy now.”
- Compartments: Do you need a compartment for your racket? What about your phone, a water bottle, or shoes? We have all of the above, and so much more, below.
- Bells and Whistles: If you frequently walk or bike in low-light areas near your pickleball court, having a bag with reflective strips will be nice. Others may appreciate adjustable, convertible straps. We also have waterproof, scratch-resistant, and oversized options.
- Mode of Carrying: Duffel, backpack, crossbody? Whatever your preference, we've found a style for you.
How We Selected
I hit the courts (research!) to see what bags pickleball players are carrying, what they love about them, and what they hate about them. This probably won’t come as a surprise to you, but pickleball players are an opinionated bunch. I also combed through technical assessments of bags at VeryWellFit and (where else?) Pickleheads.com. Finally, I read thousands of comments online about what players loved and loathed about their recently purchased bags. Below, you’ll find a nice range of styles, prices, and options—and all are highly regarded.
